Why am I not losing weight?

I have been in ketosis for 2 weeks now.  Although all food cravings have disappeared and energy restored, I have not lost a single oz.  I only have about 25 lbs to lose, but would like to see some weight loss progress.  I do have a slight low thyroid and am taking supplements for it.  Any suggestions

Ah, well, welcome to the over fifty and female club. It sucks but it is just harder for us. That doesn’t mean it is impossible, just that it might not happen as fast as you would like.

The first thing that comes to mind when someone complains they are not losing weight is, “Does this person really need to be losing?” Are they trying for a fitness model body image that is not realistic or even healthy? I don’t know if that’s you but I have seen this syndrome in a lot of people.

You also seem to be very aware and well informed about health and fitness and there is always a danger there of getting caught up in overthinking things, (I have fallen into this trap myself). This hyper awareness can even become a form of stress in and of itself. Measuring every gram, recording every workout. It can get to be a full time job.

Beyond that, sure you can try cutting out the snacking on nuts. I would suggest that you cut snacking out entirely. Between meal snacks keep your insulin pumping and your whole metabolism in fat storage mode.
I might also suggest some intermittent fasting to jump start things. There is an interesting book called , “Eat, Stop, Eat” by Brad Pilon and another called the “Warrior Diet” by Ori Hofmekler that might help. Also I have found the website of Dr. Jason Fung (who also has a book I believe) to be very interesting.

Maybe… just give yourself more time. Two weeks might not mean much to your body… you might need longer. Don’t beat yourself up.

Supplements for low thyroid? Or actual thyroid meds (a prescription-dose)? This might have something to do with your struggles. Knowing your actual thyroid numbers are going to help you succeed with your overall health. If you are on a thyroid med – is it synthetic? People can sometimes struggle with the synthetic; sometimes causing a list of new/different symptoms.

How about your hormone levels? Getting and knowing this information… also super helpful! Menopause or not… know where you are at. Estrogen dominance can be a trouble maker: weight-gainer, fibroid-maker, thyroid-beater-upper, fatigue-inducer, and metabolism-sabotage.

Thanks garden girl. No medications just thyroid herbs to support thyroid function (kelp, etc) Estrogen dominance and insulin resistance has been resolved. Was very sick for 10 years with chronic fatigue, severe toxicity due to the military and lots of immunizations; and other autoimmune, but all is resolved. Always working on detoxing though as you know cause of our enivorment, toxic thoughts, etc. and past poor methylation. Now that I can exercise (couldn’t for 5 years due to extreme fatigue) I hired a functional exercise trainer been a year now. Thought it was time I could focus on weight—but I guess I just need more time. Glad to have the energy, no cravings and not wasting so much time fixing meals (except for husband) but I never eat what

Hate to break this to you but ketosis alone is not a magic wand for weight loss. I don’t know what else is going on in your life but you still have to pay attention to overall quantity of food, quality of food, sleep, stress, exercise, etc. It is all a package.

Well since I eat only organic, have a personal trainer 3 times per week plus do step bet on my fitbit daily, practice stress relieving like yoga, deep breathing, meditation, etc eat two meals a day :  one salad and one meat and vegetable, always with a tablespoon of organic fermented veggies with it  and one fat bomb a day; have been gluten and dairy free for 10 years, drink half my body weight in oz of filtered water as a minimum.  Take lots of fish oil.  Maybe too many nuts?  I eat a handful when on the run and feel hungry.  Do my food sensitivity tests every 6 months to eliminate any foods that may be an issue, Have been drinking bone broth with Lglutamine to heal leaky gut for 4 years, Any other ideas.  Also  have a infra red sauna I use once a week to detox, plus a foot detox bath once a week, had all my amalgms removed to rid of mercury.  Don’t know what else I can do to get rid of this pesky weight.  Was hoping this ketogenic diet would help.  Have tried everything else I know to get healthy and I am much better, just want abdominal/visceral fat gone.  On no medications, but am a 61 year old female.
