Starting keto
Hi Louise! Im new to Keto, and I just want to lose weight and feel better. Im a little confused about something. I checked out what my macros are for the diet, and want to stay in the 70%fat,25%protein, and 5% carbs, roughly. How do you track all of how much you eat to make sure it adds up properly per meal and a daily total, to be able to stay in high ketosis? Do you need to fast before starting keto, or begin eating Keto meals and check ketones often? How do you figure net carbs? Ive been struggling with weight my whole life, and after having 3 kids some places on me just wont disappear, no matter what I do. If you could help, thatd be great!

Hey Miranda-great questions. Let’s see if I can help.
How do you track all of how much you eat to make sure it adds up properly per meal and a daily total, to be able to stay in high ketosis?-The answer is to use a keto app. There are lots to choose from and most can be downloaded for free. Try My Fitness Pal, Carb Manager, Senza or Stupid Simple Keto.
Do you need to fast before starting keto, or begin eating Keto meals and check ketones often? You don’t need to fast to start although it would get you a jumpstart. I would start by eating keto meals. If your diet is already clean for the most part, you should be ok! If your diet is mostly processed I’d suggest eliminating the processed foods first then start changing your meals to keto..even one at a time if you need to go slowly.
How do you figure net carbs? You take the total carbs listed then subtract your fiber and any sugar alcohols (erythritol, xylitol, etc)
Hope that helps-Becky
