New to Keto - is it for me? / tips appreciated!

I have been paleo before, but have never done keto (in fact, I think the only real difference is you want to get to ketosis so very very low carbs, whereas paleo could be even eating bananas and potatoes – a crazy thought to me because I went from 160 to 130 pounds, size 8 to size 3, in 7 months last year by doing to a low carb diet – but I would love to know if I’m wrong on this and actually what you all think are the benefits of being in ketosis vs paleo and if when you’re doing keto, you do it all the time or just jump into ketosis for a bit and then back to normal, low carb paleo eating? If I’m only wanting to lose like 5 pounds, would you recommend doing keto? I am very active, do strength and cardio daily and am training for my third triathlon and love the increased energy from starting my exercise routine a year ago and how my body feels overall. And… any tips for dairy sensitive folks? I can do butter, although I try to make and use ghee instead, and am ok w/ full fat goat milk yogurt .I put a spoonful of coconut oil in my daily coffee along with a cup or two of almond milk, but the coconut milk I just haven’t been able to get into, and when I used to put cream into my coffee I would get too mucus-y. Thanks for any tips ya’ll have!

Why did you stop doing paleo? Sounds like what you’ve done in the past works very well for you. Is there any reason you wouldn’t just tighten things up a bit and go back to a lowish carb paleo diet to lose the 5#? Keto is great and all, but don’t look at is as the “new shiny thing” that everyone has to try. If low carb paleo works for you I’d recommend sticking to that, then maybe dabble with some intermittent fasting or cyclic ketosis if you’re not making the progress you hoped for.

Thanks Matt! I stopped eating paleo several years ago, after doing it for maybe a year and slowly getting back into eating “normal.” Then last year I went back onto a specific meal plan that is paleo but prob too low fat for my preference, so I now do a modified form of it w/ plenty of fats, so I’m def back on paleo now, but struggling to lose those last few pounds, even when I reduce my carbs to only my dinner veggies. But I may need to just be stricter and stick w/ the super low carb for a few months and I’ll try your idea of intermittent fasting. Appreciate the tips!

I agree with Matt.

On the missing cheese front, there is a product from The Julian Bakery available on Amazon that is a “vegan” cheese but unlike many of the soy based concoctions out there, this one is coconut based and actually melts and tastes like real cheese.

Oh thank you! I avoid soy products to this will be great to try.
