MTC Oil

I had much success on a strict Keto diet a few years ago. I dropped about 40 pounds and generally felt great. Unfortunately, I never lost my cravings for simple carbs, sugars, sweets etc.,  Only through force of will was I able to resist for 12 months in not knowingly eating any simple carbs.  They managed to creep back into my diet in sneaky, so called; healthy things like Emergen C vitamin C powder.

A few grams here and another few there, it would slide into my diet, and before I knew what happened the full blown cravings for sugar took over and I lost the battle.

Keto is very tricky for the average person like me to embrace when the sugar addiction is not only strong, but every single man-made product out there puts sugar in their foods to solidify our addiction to their products.

I have tried all kinds of supplements to combat the sugar addiction, but generally to no avail. Even if I manage to quell the sugar cravings, a single bite of organic fruit will impact me the same way it does a drug addict.  I cannot stop with one bite!

Realistically, one cannot cut out all sugars and expect to lead a normal life.  The only real hope is to find a way to consume some healthy sugars without falling off the wagon and getting out of Ketosis.

I finally got around to trying MTC oil, in my morning coffee.  I resisted for years because I’m a coffee snob and I really, really like sweet mocha flavored coffee.  So I decided to create a version of Bullet-Proof coffee to see if I could stand drinking it, and if it would give me the energy to avoid eating any food until Lunch time.

My version is MTC oil, Collagen Powder, Organic Cacao Powder, AND Monkfruit Sweetener.

Well, I was actually surprised. Not only did it taste pretty good once blended, I got a boost of Keto energy and was not hungry till Lunch time, PLUS my sugar cravings have dropped down into what I can only assume is a “normal” range.  I don’t think about sugar until well into the evening.

Have others found this useful side effect to MTC oil?

Professor Tim Noakes talks about this on one of Christopher Kelly’s “nourish balance thrive” podcasts   If he mistakenly eats something sweet he’s craving sweets for the next  day or so, and this guys hardcore keto.

I have learned all that useful information and science behind getting rid of sugar, even though the sugar dealers are EVERYWHERE!  But like any addict, knowing drugs, alcohol and sugar are bad for me, is not enough motivation to just stop!  It is a mental health issue which must first be mastered, or at least done in unison with sugar rehab.  Finding a good craving reduction strategy is a good first step!

Are you familiar with EFT? Tapping is a great way to eliminate cravings. Also, for immediate relief, the mudra where you hold down your right ring finger with your right thumb (kind of making a circle) while keeping the other fingers of your right hand straight works wonders.

During my life, like so many others, I have been severely addicted to sugar, but I have completely stopped eating it because it is pure garbage and at the core of metabolic syndrome. Every person has cancer cells in their bodies that may or may not grab hold due to compromised mitochondria, your body’s producers of energy (ATP). I’m not going to go into oxidative stress and free radicals. Just understand this. Cancer blossoms and grows on and loves sugar,  and 1 out of every 2 women and 1 out of every 3 men will get cancer. Don’t create an environment where it will grow. It doesn’t eat ketones. Find some nice keto desserts and fat bombs using your Lo Hang or flavored Stevia drops. It’s okay to have a craving. Just don’t fulfill it with sugar

Thanks for the clue about C.O.  I’ll check that.  I just kind-of assumed I did not have that, as all the other supplements I take and some specific foods are very unfriendly to that yeast.  Although it is better to check and that test sounds simple.

The main issue I have is that my gut is not really happy with MTC oil, in conjunction with some supplement I’m currently taking.  I need to identify which one(s) lead to the morning “runs”.  I’ve given up all non-sugar related leaky gut foods and grains, so I’m perplexed by this need to purge my bowels.  I’ll have to try stopping everything and then add things back to see which one is the bowel irritating culprit.

Handy thing about the intermittent fasting.  I do tend to feel better when not eating.

Too much MCT oil too soon will result in pain, cramps and blow-outs. Start slow and with a little bit; especially if it is new to you. What ever you are consuming – cut that either in half, in thirds, or even go as small as cutting it down even more. I have a friend who had to start with 1/8 of a teaspoon! It took her a month to build up to 1/2 Tbs. There’s no race to finish first :-) take your time and ease into it. There is also the slight possibility your body might not like it at all. I would be taking notes as I progress with upping my ‘dose’; you might do fine around the 2 tsp mark but going over that causes problems. There might be a tolerance level for you to possibly also consider.

Have you ever been checked/tested for Candida (overgrowth)? When this gets out of control it can keep you going back to sugar/carbs. We all have and need candida but it needs to be kept in-check or it can take over. The side affects can vary from person to person but regardless – it can wreak havoc in one way or another.

You can do your own ‘spit test’ at home to rule this out. First thing in the morning (before you eat or drink anything), put some water in a glass (clear glass is great because you can watch and witness) and work up some saliva – and drop/spit it into the glass of water. Walk away and go do something for a few minutes. Check it periodically, the amount of time it takes can vary. It will get cloudy, have ‘particles’, strains, ropes, stringers – whatever you want to call them… it’s a cloudy, stringy mess (if the overgrowth is prominent). When I had a severe overgrowth – the reading was pretty quick! The ‘ropes’ were forming rather quickly! Yikes! I was watching them form and dropping to the bottom of the glass. Good grief! I was in trouble… but it all made sense after testing myself, doing my research and then talking with my doctor.

This home test can be ‘googled’. It’s free and easy to do. If you want to test yourself a couple of times (in a week) and take the law of averages (like I did) – this can help you come to terms with: yup, I probably have Candida overgrowth and/or rule this out. If you are unfortunately successful with having the ropes-and-stringers there are protocols at getting things back in check.

I, personally, had do some cleansing and heavy metal detoxing. Also, parasites are little nasty critters that everyone thinks they are ‘free’ from…but I disagree. If you live on planet Earth, you have some sort of parasite (or parasites). These guys also LOVE sugar and carbs. Research this and come to your own conclusion if you need to do a parasite cleanse. If you visit Ann Louise Gittleman’s website – she has amazing information regarding parasites.

Your bulletproof coffee sounds similar to what I make. I just LOVE the MCT oil. I almost can’t live without it. 🙂 I also am putting in the collagen, raw cacao, organic Ceylon cinnamon, organic turmeric, and adding in the cacao butter (for its magnesium), as well as dandelion root (extract or tea). Super creamy, rich, and so filling. I don’t think about food until almost dinner time. If I do – it’s a fat bomb with tea, bone broth, or grabbing some veggies to tie me over. I do have a smoothie on days I lift/workout.

MCT oil helps keep you regular; that is super helpful! When you have a ‘normal’/healthy poo everyday it keeps your whole body humming! Need I say more? 🙂
