What fat will burn with keto?

I have lost 140 lbs in the last 20 months.  I am have been stuck 25 lbs short of my weight goal, 200 lbs, for 4 1/2 months.  I need a kick start and am currently trying a keto diet.  If I understand correctly, the keto diet will force my body to burn fat instead of glucose.  My question is “what fat do I want it to burn?”.  I think I want it to burn the fat hanging on my body now.  It seems that I’m encouraged to increase my fat intake a “lot” on the keto diet, but won’t that confuse my body as to “what fat to burn”?  What happens if I cut way back on carbs as suggested in keto, but also keep my fat intake to 25% to 30% of my total calories?  This would be a low carb, moderate fat, and a high protein approach to losing weight.  What are the pros and cons to this approach?  Thank you in advance for any help you can give me in this area.

Hi Charles,

Only you will know what feels best in your body. If you scale back the carbs you will need to up the fats too. True keto is higher fat, moderate protein and low carbs. If you want to switch that around to try, it may work for you! The only time your body would burn the dietary fat you are eating instead of the fat you are taking in (assuming you’re eating low carb) is if you are eating too much fat. This is why it is important to use a keto calculator to find out where your macronutrients should be to give you guidelines on how to most efficiently burn fat. I hope that helps.
