Breastfeeding & Keto
Has Any woman been successful in ketosis while breastfeeding? My supply goes down considerably and I still get light headed when I’ve fasted a little too long. I eat a bit of extra protein and carbs and my little one is 1.5 years old so she mostly eats solids but I do not want to cease breastfeeding yet. Advice?

Hello!
I have many clients who do keto and breastfeed. For them I have them add one or two cups of berries per day to keep their milk supply up. I also do not encourage them to fast while BF. I hope that helps! I know this was posted some time ago but I didn’t see any responses yet. 🙂
Be Well,

It was harder with my last baby 2.5 years ago.
This baby is 3 weeks old and I was “lazy keto” for the last 6 months of the pregnancy (ie Keto until someone passed me cake and ice cream LOL).
During labor and delivery, I only ate coconut butter (out of the jar like a savage) at the hospital. Ordered 2 diabetic meals while I was there – what a joke (chicken in teriyaki sauce, rice, corn niblets, potatoes, whole wheat bread, margarine and skim milk!!!!! I can’t even!)
Since coming home from hospital, my milk has been better than ever (I have 2 other children who were starving as babies from my low milk supply) Â Eating carbs has no effect other than giving me a cramp. Â When my milk feels weak, I eat more fat and that does the trick.
I am certainly not watching calories. I am eating quite a lot, and especially a lot of fat. Â But I also feel like I am slimming down and making tons of milk. Â So this is great so far.
Last night’s dinner: whole ribeye steak, cooked in butter, mushrooms cooked in butter, roasted cauliflower and Brussels sprouts – in olive oil, half a sweet potato with butter ( for dessert). Felt like I was making awesome milk!
Good luck and just focus on nutrient dense, awesome colorful foods and add lots of butter!!!
