Blood Glucose testing
I’ve been on Keto for 3 weeks now. Lost 13.5 pounds, but I don’t think I’m in Ketosis yet. I have been testing my blood glucose first thing in the morning and before bed. I’m averaging around 72mg. Does anyone know what is optimal for a Keto diet? Also, I will be testing my ketones by using a breathalizer – just haven’t received it yet. Thanks.
According to my knowledge your blood sugar reading should be between 60 and 80mg. Therefore you must be in nutritional ketosis as your ketones are in opposite to your blood sugar. Seeing that you are losing weight steadily, I would say you are doing great so far!
The fact that you are also not hungry any more is a sign that your body is producing enough Ketones to meet your energy needs.
My gut is telling me if you are losing weight, you are in Ketosis! If you stop losing weight, you have probably exceeded the # of carbs you can comfortably eat and still be in Ketosis. Go for 20 carbs or less for a few days and see it the weight starts moving downward again. At 20 carbs I lose, above that – my weight loss comes to a screeching halt. I haven’t bought any of the testing apparatus yet. Still too pricey for me at this time. But when I don’t max the 20 carb limit, I lose. Just a suggestion 🙂
- Thanks. I’ve been keeping my carbs under 20 and I’m still losing about 1 pound every 2-3 days. I’m just wondering about what my optimal blood sugar should be. I’m really happy with this diet – no more cravings, not even hungry most of the time. Sad thing is all the strawberries and raspberries in my garden – although raspberries are pretty good to eat in moderation!!! You know, I’m losing weight, but not necessarily fat – and that’s my goal. Well time will tell.
- Actually, I thought of this this morning as my daily weigh in didn’t budge … HOWEVER, I was able to put on a pair of Capri’s and snap them! That reminded me that you might not see a drop in the scale, but hopefully you took some body measurements prior to beginning. If not, panic not, do so now. Also, put on a pair of slacks that may have been snug and see what you see. Often the FAT is coming off but the numbers may not always reflect it. Continued Good SUCCESS!!
